Confessions of a Failing Dental Student
Saturday, June 13th, 2009No one should have to be their own dentist or be without any dental insurance benefits . I’m 52 years of age and this is my dental horror story. Back in 2007 I had a badly abcessed tooth. I didn’t have dental insurance and did not have a job to pay the bills. I was also living in pain. I began to have head aches and the infection had spread from my mouth to my right eye. My right side of my face was already swollen. So I finally decided it was time to call the dentist and make that appointment.
They told me I had to have $240.00 up front before they would see me. This was just to have a tooth pulled. The appointment wasn’t for another five days and I didn’t know if I could have tolerated the pain that long. I did’nt even have the funds for the dental procedure, no credit cards and it was the middle of the month. So I sat there and cried in pain. Well I got my nerve up and decided to pull my tooth myself. Well you’ve heard of the tie a string to the door knob trick! Yes it had gotten that bad. I almost passed out after the first pull because of the incredible pain on the side of my face. I sobbed and sobbed. I held that string to my chest and prayed. Finally the Tooth was being eased out. By then it easily came out with no dental pain at all. After a consultation with the Dentist I realized I had been in potentially fatal situation.
The Good Lord saved me that day so I may tell other people like me that you really don’t need to be your own dentist. A job like this should be left to professionals. Now I have my Ameriplan Network and I can actually see a real pro now. Thank God for Ameriplan.
